Michael J. Derecola, ATC, CSCS
Michael is the former head certified athletic trainer and strength & conditioning coach for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. The Crunch is the Columbus Blue Jackets minor league team. Prior to Syracuse, Michael has spent the last three years in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) - the first year with the Huntington Blizzard and the next two years with the Charlotte Checkers. During the third year, he was chosen to represent the Northern Division for the ECHL All-Star game in Trenton, New Jersey. In addition to his professional career, he held an internship position with the Philadelphia Flyers and assisted at the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets training camps. In July 2001 and July 2002, Michael was chosen to serve as the strength & conditioning coach at the USA Hockey Select 14 Festivals.
Michael graduated with a B.S. degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he was certified as an athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and became a certified strength & conditioning specialist with the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). As a native of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, he participated in a variety of sports that included hockey, football, soccer, and baseball. He also participated in outdoor track in the 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay. Michael was a two-time High School District I-AA champion (Pennsylvania) in the 4x100m relay. He also finished in the top ten 100m sprinters his senior year at the Disrict I-AA Championships.
